The history of the company dates back to 1959! That was the year the Tesla Rožnov design centre was founded. This centre specialized in the production of vacuum technology and later in the production of active semiconductor devices. From 1964, the centre produced the first air-conditioning equipment and first cleanrooms.

The design centre worked not only for Tesla Rožnov, but also for other plants within the concern across the country. The first projects for an air-conditioning system and cleanroom (class 100 to 10 000) were gradually developed from 1964. In 1968 the first computing centre was designed, and in 1971, the first project to produce integrated circuits was created. In 1976, the project to manufacture colour televisions began.

The Tesla Rožnov design centre was the predecessor of Elektroprojekta Rožnov, where the tradition of cleanrooms began. This made the company unique within the framework of the entire Elektroprojekta Praha organization, which was founded in 1982 as a design and engineering conglomerate. The plant in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm became one of its branch factories and was the largest in terms of personnel and the most experienced within the entire Elektroprojekta Praha company.

In 1983, the Federal Ministry of Electronic Industry ordered the study “Cleanrooms in Electrical Engineering” from Elektroprojekta Rožnov. On the basis of this, and in cooperation with the Technical University in Prague – Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, the Research Institute of Air-Conditioning in Prague, and Janka Praha, the typifying guideline of “Cleanrooms in Electrical Engineering”, the first comprehensive and concise material in this field in our country, was created and approved by the Ministry of Electronic Industry in 1985.

In the area of project activity, the major customer of Elektroprojekta Rožnov was GŘ Tesla electronic components and its plants. At that time, there was massive development in the production of integrated circuits, which were produced primarily in Rožnov and in Piešťany. Thousands of square metres of cleanrooms were reconstructed or newly built.

In the years 1984 – 1991, Elektroprojekta Rožnov designed and engineered a total of 4,500 square metres of cleanrooms with support facilities and demanding energy infrastructure.

During this period, Elektroprojekta Rožnov experienced dynamic development in various areas such as personnel, professionalism and material equipment.

In 1990, Elektroprojekta Rožnov became a state-owned company. Two years later, a privatization project was approved and on 29 April 1992, Elektroprojekta Rožnov was registered in the Commercial Register as a joint-stock company.

From the early 1990s, the company began to develop its activities in other areas due to negative developments in the electrotechnical industry, and in addition to electrical engineering, the extent of the company’s design and implementation activities also gradually expanded into the pharmaceutical industry, medicine, optics, and the manufacture of medical equipment, etc.
The first projects were realized in Galena Opava, Biointer Praha and also in the health care field.

Operating theatres, ICUs (Intensive Care Units), and ward blocks were reconstructed in various hospitals, for example in Piešťany, Frýdek – Místek, Karviná – Ráj, Valašské Meziříčí, Zlín, etc. In 1991, Elektroprojekta Rožnov acted as the investor’s en­gineering supervisor throughout the construction of the Faculty Hospital Prague – Motol.

After almost ten years, the investment in electronics was resumed and Tesla Sezam, a.s. started to produce chips for Motorola using bipolar technology on 4" Si boards in Rožnov. For that reason, cleanrooms in the M1 and M8 objects were reconstructed, and the production capacity was gradually increased, resulting in the reconstruction of approximately 5,500 square metres of cleanrooms by the year 2001. In 1999, cleanrooms for Terosil a.s. were also reconstructed, and the reconstruction works for ON Semiconductor Piešťany began.

The end of the 20th century was characterized by the development of the pharmaceutical industry, and Elektroprojekta realized cleanrooms in Lachema Brno. The first projects were started in Meopta – optics in Přerov, which became one of Elektroprojek­ta’s most important customers.

In the electrical engineering field, the premises of ON Semiconductor Czech Republic, s.r.o. were gradually reconstructed, and the integration, capacity, and size of Si boards were upgraded in both Rožnov and Piešťany.

In the pharmaceutical industry, from the year 2000 new customers were attracted, both domestic (Noventis Zlín, VÚVEL Brno, ICN Czech Republic, RWE Schott) and foreign (Sanitas Kaunas, Grindeks Pharma Riga, Fermentas Vilnius, Ria Panda Moskva, BFCHZ Kijev, and Q-TEC in Switzerland).

For regular customers, such as Pliva – Lachema Brno and Hoechst – Biotika in Martin, analytical laboratories for work with cytostatics, PT substances, CTS tablet production facilities, a Pilot-Plant, Oxaliplatin and Irinotecan production laboratories, microbiology facilities, and the construction of cleanrooms for packaging lines, etc. were implemented.

In the area of medical technology, an assembly plant for dialysis tubing was constructed in two stages for MPH Medical Devices in Přelouč. In this period, the most important building in the health sector was the construction and reconstruction of the State Silesian Hospital in Opava. Renovation of the hospitals Karviná – Ráj, the Karviná Mining Hospital, the University Hospital in Ostrava, the Brothers of Charity Hospital Brno, the University of Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Sciences Brno, etc. also took place.

Even though some periods were very unfavourable for the company during its development, it has always managed to survive and stabilize. Currently, EP Rožnov, a.s. is a design, engineering and contracting company providing comprehensive services in investment construction and in technology-intensive areas. The company designs and implements new construction projects, reconstructions, modernizes buildings, expands production capacities, etc. The company offers its services to the electronics industry, the pharmaceutical industry, optics, the manufacture of medical technology, health care, civil construction and other areas of industrial construction.

Design and implementation orders are carried out not only in the Czech Republic, but also in Russia, Lithuania, Latvia, Switzerland, Spain, the Slovak Republic, etc.

Thanks to its history, pioneering educational activities and training of its own and foreign personnel, the company is a leader in the field of cleanrooms.

Given that the original company name did not adequately cover the full range of services offered, and also to preserve the continuity of tradition, the extraordinary general meeting agreed to change of the corporate name Elektroprojekta Rožnov to EP Rožnov, a.s. on January 1, 2010.

In the field of medical technology production, the most important contracts that we have already realized as EP Rožnov, a.s. include the construction of a production complex for the installation of dialysis sets, including the construction of a new production and storage hall and the reconstruction of an office building for Gambro Czech Republic s.r.o. in Přerov.

We are implementing an on-going project for Meopta-Optika s.r.o. involving the reconstruction of manufacturing facilities for the production of optical products, including cleanroom cells, cleanrooms for photochemistry and vacuum equipment, rooms for mounting X-ray converters, etc. It also involved the reconstruction of a building for research and development.

In the area of healthcare, we have mainly realized contracts for installations in operating theatres and facilities for Perfect Clinic and the Thomayer University Hospital in Prague, as well as the design and implementation of individual parts of the Karviná Mining Hospital, the Karviná-Ráj Hospital, the Znojmo Hospital and others.

In the area of electrical engineering, one of our long-lasting customers is ON Semiconductor Czech Republic, s.r.o., for whom we reconstruct clean rooms for the production of chips and for the increased integration, capacity and size of Si boards. In 2011, the most advanced clean rooms for photolithography in Central Europe were installed there (purity class 4 according to ČSN EN ISO 14644–1).

Our foreign customers include Pulsar in Moscow, where we realized the reconstruction of buildings for the production of microelectronic components.

Our biggest contract in 2011–2012 was the reconstruction of the buildings of ABB s.r.o., where we reconstructed manufacturing facilities for the production of power semiconductor devices as the general designer and contractor. We reconstructed cleanrooms with a total area of 1,500 m2.
